Atkins Library became a depository for Charlotte City and Mecklenburg
County documents and publications in 1984. Local documents which are
a part of the UNC Charlotte collection can be accessed by searching
the library catalog .
Atkins Library has strong coverage of publications from such major
departments as Charlotte Budget & Evaluation, Mecklenburg Budget
& Resource Management, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission,
and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, including budget reports and board
meeting minutes for July 1990 - December 1998. Coverage for other city
and county departments and agencies varies widely. The collection also
includes some items from counties surrounding Mecklenburg.
Some departments are releasing their documents in electronic format.
In cases where we have the document in paper format and it's available
in electronic format, we will create a link to the electronic version.
We are in the process of cataloging a few items which are available
only electronically, and those will also appear in the library
catalog .
Closely related to the Local Documents Collection are older materials
in the Rare Book and Manuscript Collections, such as the 1902 Charlotte
City Code and the handwritten minutes from 19th century school board
meetings.
The Local Documents Collection is located on the third floor of Atkins
Library after the U.S. Federal documents and North Carolina State documents.
Stop at the Reference Desk on the first floor for directions.
