HISTORICAL NOTE

The AIDS Prevention Advisory Committee (APAC) was formed in 1988 to advise the Mecklenburg County Health Dept. on HIV/AIDS issues. Several members of the department served on the committee, and the department provided the committee with staff support. APAC solicited federal funding for AIDS prevention counseling through the United States Health Resources and Services Administration and worked in cooperation with the Regional HIV Consortium, an AIDS patient care and education project supported by the United Way of the Carolinas and the Foundation for the Carolinas. In 1995, APAC reorganized as the Mecklenburg County AIDS Task Force.
