| The Charlotte Branch of the American Association
of University Women (AAUW) began in 1913 as a college club for literary
study. This club soon affiliated with the Southern Association of College
Women and, in 1921, joined the AAUW. The North Carolina Division was formed
in 1927. As one of the largest branches, the Charlotte AAUW has taken an
active part in the development of the statewide organization. Among the
branch's most successful projects have been the Interpreter Service, the
Charlotte College Library Project, and its annual book sales. The Charlotte
Branch has supported a variety of local and national causes, including the
Little Theater of Charlotte and the Equal Rights Amendment. |
