SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection dates primarily from the late 1960s and early 1970s and contains pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, and other printed items of an ephemeral nature. Issues addressed include the Vietnam War; American political and economic involvement in other countries, especially in Latin America; civil rights, racism, and black power; socialism and communism and their relevance to the United States; economics and labor; and women's liberation. Much of the material originated from groups in the Midwest, especially Milwaukee. The American New Left Collection is organized into two series:

Series: 1: Subject Files (1960-1975).
  2: Newspapers and Periodicals (1969-1975).

SERIES DESCRIPTIONS AND CONTAINER LISTS

Series 1: SUBJECT FILES (1960-1975)

Includes publications of a non-serial nature grouped by topics or organizations. An attempt has been made in the descriptions to indicate if an item also relates to a significant degree to a subject(s) other than the one under which it is filed. It has not been possible, however, to note all such relationships since many of the publications cover a broad range of topics in their analysis and criticism of American society.
