Irwin Family Papers, 1775 - 1931 The Irwin Family Papers (Mss 359) is a small manuscript collection, consisting mostly of letters, bills of sale (including bills of sale for slaves), real estate deeds and genealogical notes of a family of Charlotte, North Carolina, primarily during the nineteenth century. Knox Family Papers, 1762 - 1945 The Knox family papers is a small collection generated by the Knox and related families (including the Dunlap, Lowrie, and Porter families) documenting much of their daily activities, mostly from the mid nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. Most of the papers in this collection are letters to and from family members, promissory notes that document short-term loans between friends and family members, papers concerning the settlement of estates of deceased people, the ownership of slaves and events during the Civil War. Mary Norton Kratt, 1886 - 2000 Items collected by a Charlotte historian and author, including manuscripts and other material relating to Kratt's published writings, and routine business recordsof the Charlotte Post, a weekly African-American newspaper. Leary Love Family Collection, ca. 1875 - 1996 The Leary Love Collection includes primarily the papers of George Leary Love and his mother, Rose Leary Love. Rose Love was an elementary school teacher in the Charlotte, NC public school system for nearly forty years. In addition to her teaching career, she also wrote poetry, music, and short stories for children. George Leary Love had a notable career as a photographer, a vocation that he used, in part, to fulfill his interest in environmental issues. In the early 1960s, he was involved with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee as a field photographer. By the late 1960s he moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he was employed with the Sao Paulo Light and Power Company. In addition to his work for ElectroPaulo, Love spent many years photographing the Amazon River Valley and the Brazilian rain forest. R. Stewart Lillard papers, 1771 - 2000 Papers relating to Lillard's research on author Ralph Ellison. Includes correspondence with Ellison and others, notes, articles, and information on Ellison's South Carolina ancestors. McCoy Family Papers, 1796 - 2001 This collection contains papers and photographs generated by the McCoy and related families in Mecklenburg County from 1796 to 2001. Most of the papers were produced by Albert McCoy, who lived from 1843 to 1925. Other papers were generated by some of his children. Other families related to the McCoys were the Gluyas, Houston, and Nisbet families. Because the McCoys owned slaves, some of the files in this collection concern a slave cemetery and traditional stories told by slaves that the McCoy family owned. Jimmy McKee Collection, 1944 - 1984 Papers of the founder of the Excelsior Club, the most influential social club for African Americans in Charlotte, NC, from its establishment in 1944 to its sale forty years later. McLean Papers, 1930 - 1982 Collection 250 contains the papers of Charles A. McLean, primarily during his work as an officer of the North Carolina NAACP. Other papers were produced as a result of his business activities or by his family. North Carolina Fund Records Selected records of an anti-poverty demonstration project, including information on specific projects in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties. North Carolina School Desegregation Papers, 1955 - 1956 The North Carolina School Desegregation Papers (mss 413), is a small collection (one folder) of mostly published material, generated by the faction that was opposed to the racial desegregation of public schools. The source of this material is not known. J. Walter Potts Family, 1776 - 1942 The collection contains a small quantity of papers, and includes materials from John Neely in 1776, the Grier family (a.k.a. Greer family), the Hunter family and the J. Walter Potts family; all from the Steele Creek Township in southwestern Mecklenburg County, NC. The papers include documentation concerning real estate transactions, receipts for taxes and consumer goods, promissory notes, letters to and from various family members, and documentation concerning slaves. Margaret Whitton Ray Papers Papers of the chair of the Citizens Advisory Group, formed in 1973 to develop pupil assignment guidelines for desegregating Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. T. J.
