Harriet Doar Papers Papers of a journalist and book review editor with The Charlotte News (1939-46) and The Charlotte Observer (1959-82). Includes copies of her articles, correspondence with authors and editors, and research files. Harry Golden Papers [Part One] Papers of a journalist, best selling author, and civil libertarian. Consists chiefly of material generated as editor of the Charlotte-based Carolina Israelite but also documenting his involvement in the Democratic Party, the civil rights movement, and Jewish issues. Gail Haley Collection, 1842 - 2005 This collection contains primarily artistic work and book drafts for many of Gail Haley's children's books. Bertha Harris Papers Drafts and a published copy of her novel Catching Saradove. Contains two typescript drafts with holograph corrections, excerpts from a handwritten draft, one set of galley proofs, and one published copy of Catching Saradove. Howell Family Papers Papers of the Howell, Poole, O'Rorke, and Claney families concerning various aspects of their entertainment careers. Individuals featured in the papers include Conza Howell and her husband, Howard Moorehead Claney. Contains correspondence and photographs. Mary Norton Kratt, 1886 - 2000 Collection 113 consists of manuscripts and other material relating to Mary Norton Kratt’s writing: including some of her books and articles, and a great deal of her poetry (published and unpublished). The collection also includes taped interviews that she used in researching her writing, and photographs that she used in the development of Legacy: The Myers Park Story, and Charlotte: Spirit of the New South. Leary Love Family Collection, ca. 1875 - 1996 The Leary Love Collection includes primarily the papers of George Leary Love and his mother, Rose Leary Love. Rose Love was an elementary school teacher in the Charlotte, NC public school system for nearly forty years. In addition to her teaching career, she also wrote poetry, music, and short stories for children. George Leary Love had a notable career as a photographer, a vocation that he used, in part, to fulfill his interest in environmental issues. In the early 1960s, he was involved with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee as a field photographer. By the late 1960s he moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he was employed with the Sao Paulo Light and Power Company. In addition to his work for ElectroPaulo, Love spent many years photographing the Amazon River Valley and the Brazilian rain forest. James Lineberger Papers Primarily drafts and revisions of screenplays of North Carolina writer James Lineberger. Also includes poetry, lyric sheets for a musical, and manuscripts for a stage play and a novel. Amon Liner Collection Material relating to this poet and native Charlottean and his appearance on New Voices, a program on WUNC-FM radio about seven young North Carolina writers. North Carolina Print and Drawing Society Records Records of the North Carolina Print and Drawing Society from its establishment to its termination. Includes minutes, financial records, newsletters, and correspondence. Also includes information on exhibitions sponsored by the group and on its collection of prints and drawings. Reddy Papers Papers of a Charlotte artist, poet, civil rights activist, and UNC Charlotte alumnus, highlighting his role as one of the Charlotte Three and his interest in the civil rights movement. Stanbrook Abbey Press Collection Ephemeral publications of a monastic press established in England in 1876, operated by nuns of the English Benedictine Congregation, and dedicated to the art of fine printing and perfection in typographical design. Includes several items with hand-colored illustrations. Alice Lindsay Tate Papers Papers of a Charlotte native who moved to New York City in the 1930s to pursue an operatic career. Includes correspondence with T. J. Reddy and the North Carolina Political Prisoners Committee, notes on Buddhism and Judaism, and diaries (ca. 1928-52). John A. Tennant Papers Papers of the editor and publisher of The Photo-Miniature (1899-1935), an early photography magazine. Contains advertisements, correspondence, Tennant's reminiscences on the development of photography, programs of cultural events in New York City (1905-55), and other ephemera.
